For English, ELA and ESL teachers
Let the writing bloom. Keep every word theirs.
Pen Blossom is a calm, locked page for in-class essays and timed writes. Paste is off. Leaving the tab locks the page until you let the student back in. You watch the whole room write, live. And the essays stay on your computer, not on our servers.
Free while in alpha. Runs in Chrome and on Chromebooks, with nothing to install.
Move your pointer across the page. The pen leaves flowers wherever it goes.
- No student accountsA class code and the name you typed. No emails, no admin setup.
- Never sent to AIStudent writing is never sent to any AI system. Evidence, never verdicts.
- Stays on your computerThe class runs in your browser. We never hold names or essays.
- Made for ChromebooksLarge type and big targets that read well on a 1366×768 screen.
Prevention, not detection
AI detectors guess. Your multilingual students pay for it.
Every one of those essays was written by a person. Pen Blossom doesn't guess. It keeps the conditions fair while students write, then hands you a record of how each essay came together, so a strong essay from a multilingual student is never under suspicion just for being strong.

Times come from your computer, not the student's. Each entry is chained to the one before it, so a changed entry shows.
One class period
From prompt to handed in, without the paper chase
The authenticity of a pencil-and-paper essay, with typed pages you can actually read and nothing to collect at the bell.
Set the assignment
Write the prompt, add up to five source texts, set a time limit, and choose supports for the students who need them.
Open the room
Students go to the join page, type your class code and pick their name from your roster. A PIN per name is optional.
Watch them write
Paste is off. Leave the page and it locks until you let the student back in. You see every seat, live, from your board.
Collect the essays
Download the whole class in one file, or save it to your Google Drive. Every essay carries its writing record.
Try the student's page
Type a sentence. Then try to paste one.
This is the page a student sees, shrunk down. Paste is blocked and leaving the page locks it. Everything that happens lands in the record beside it.
Write about a place that taught you something.
This page is locked
You left the page, so it locked. Your writing is saved. Raise your hand and your teacher can let you back in.
The teacher's record
0 wordsA garden teaches patience one seed at a time.
Honest about where the writing happened
Three ways to write, each labeled for what it is
Nothing can lock a kitchen table, so Pen Blossom doesn't pretend to. Every essay says which way it was written.
In class, on school Chromebooks
For on-demand essays and common assessments.
- Paste blocked, and every attempt recorded
- Leaving the page locks it
- You let each student in, and back in
In class, in any browser
For timed writes on whatever devices the room has.
- The same locked page
- Your eyes on the room and on your board
- Every exit and attempt in the record
At home, on their own time
For drafts and longer pieces. No lock, and no pretending.
- Paste allowed, and recorded with its size
- A time budget you set
- Every minute labeled as take-home
Built for multilingual learners
Supports that match each student's WIDA level
Washington and most states place English learners on WIDA's six writing levels. Pen Blossom keys its writing supports to the same levels you see on ACCESS and Screener reports. You assign them per student and per assignment, and they never sit on a student's profile.
- 1Entering
- 2Emerging
- 3Developing
- 4Expanding
- 5Bridging
- 6Reaching
Directions in the home language, word glosses and private accommodations work at every level.
-
Directions in their home language
The prompt can appear in the student's home language. The writing stays in English, so the essay still measures what you meant it to.
-
Tap a word for its meaning
Students tap a word in the prompt or a source text to see your gloss. Each tap goes in the writing record, so the support is visible and defensible.
-
Accommodations nobody else can see
Extended time, spell-check and scaffolds reach only the student who has them. No classmate can work out who has an IEP or a 504 plan.
-
A record on the student's side
When a multilingual student's essay is questioned, the record shows it was written in your room, with the supports you gave and nothing else.
Safe by design
Your class lives on your computer
Most writing tools keep students' essays on the company's servers. Pen Blossom runs the class inside your browser, and each Chromebook connects straight to you. Our only job is to introduce the two. If a school network gets in the way, we pass the traffic along encrypted end to end, so we can't read a word of it.
| Question | Pen Blossom | Typical cloud writing tool |
|---|---|---|
| Where essays are kept | On your computer | On the vendor's servers |
| Student accounts | None. A class code and a name | Usually a student login |
| Student writing sent to AI | Never | Depends on the vendor |
| Take-home work | Labeled as take-home | Often looks like class work |
| Cost for a teacher | Free while in alpha | Often a monthly subscription |
Because the class lives on your computer, keep Pen Blossom open while students write, and keep a copy of the essays: download them, or save them to your Google Drive.
Is Pen Blossom free?
Yes, free while in alpha. Open it, make a class, and give your students the code.
Do students need accounts or email addresses?
No. Students go to the join page, type your class code, and choose their name from the roster you typed. You can give each name a PIN if you like.
What if a student leaves the tab by accident?
The page locks and their writing is kept. You let them back in from your board, and the record notes that it happened. A slip costs a few seconds, not a rewrite.
What if the Wi-Fi drops in the middle of an essay?
Students keep writing. Their words are kept on the Chromebook and sent to your computer as soon as it can be reached again.
What do we need to run it?
Chrome or a Chromebook, and nothing to install. Your computer needs to stay on, with Pen Blossom open, while students write.
Can it stop a phone on the desk?
No. Pen Blossom locks the page, not the room. A second device is still a job for your eyes, which is why you can watch every seat live.
Does Pen Blossom use AI on student writing?
No. Student writing is never sent to any AI system, and Pen Blossom never labels an essay as cheating. It gives you evidence, and the judgment stays yours.
Open Pen Blossom
Nothing to download or install. It runs in Chrome, on Chromebooks too.
Free while in alpha. Want it on the shelf? Open Pen Blossom, then choose Install as an app.
